Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When clicking on the Tab Sugar icon, nothing happens
  2. The keyboard shortcut doesn’t work
  3. Why the need to all these permissions?

Q1. When clicking on the Tab Sugar icon, nothing happens

Case A: The icon is all grey

The grey icon indicates that Tab Sugar hasn’t loaded completely yet.
When loaded, the icon becomes all dark blue, meaning it can be used now.
It can take up to 10 seconds at first start for it to load completely.
If you have wait much more that that, something went wrong. You should report a bug.

Case B: The icon is dark blue

The dark blue icon means that Tab Sugar has loaded completely.
It should be usable, meaning that clicking on its icon should open the Tab Sugar dashboard displaying groups and tabs.
If it’s not the case (i.e there is no group nor tabs), something went wrong when initializing the database.

You should try the following:

  1. Open the Tab Sugar dashboard by clicking on its icon
  2. From the dashboard top bar, click on the Options link → an Options popup is displayed
  3. In the popup, click on the Developer mode action link → some advanced options are displayed
  4. Click on the Reset Tab Sugar button → the Tab Sugar icon becomes all grey
  5. Wait for the Tab Sugar icon to become dark blue (its default state)
  6. When blue, click on it (or just press the F5 key)

Q2. The keyboard shortcut doesn’t work

In order for the keyboard shortcut to work, there are two prerequisites:

  • Make sure that you defined the keyboard shortcut in the Options page
  • The page has been reloaded since the last keyboard shortcut switch
  • The page isn’t a special page

Q3. Why the need to all these permissions?

At the moment, all the permissions that are required at install aren’t used. Some of them are, but not all.

Those not used right will be in upcoming releases in order to new advanced features to release seamlessly, you users won’t have to bother with new privileges requests then..

For instance, favorites aren’t used just yet, but will be for synchronizing your dashboard between multiple locations (office, home, swimming pool…).
