##About VDA

Video Decoder Acceleration framework is a public API (since Mac OS 10.6.3) that provides access to the H.264 decoding capabilities of supported GPUs. VDA decodes only H264 avcC format video. The availability of H.264 accelerated decode varies according to Mac model and Mac OS X version.

Officially hardware supported by VDA are:

  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
  • NVIDIA GeForce 320M
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
  • ATI HD Radeon GFX
  • Intel HD Graphics
  • and others ? ...

Supported hardware :

  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, Mac Book Pro 10.6 and 10.7.
  • INTEL HD Graphics 3000, Mac Book Pro 10.7 (AFAIR not supported on 10.6).
  • AMD Radeon HD 6770M, iMac (mid 2011), 10.7.

Not supported hardware :

  • ATI Radeon HD 4670, iMac, 10.7 (not tested on 10.6).
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400, iMac, 10.6 (not tested on 10.7).
  • AMD Radeon HD 6770M, iMac (mid 2011), 10.6.
