== Requirements * CentOS 5.2 (recommended) * Ruby Enterprise Edition (http://rubyforge.org/frs/download.php/41040/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810.tar.gz) * Ruby on Rails 2.1 higher * Sphinx 0.9.8 or higher (http://sphinxsearch.com/downloads/sphinx-0.9.8.tar.gz) * HTTrack (http://download.httrack.com/cserv.php3?File=httrack.tar.gz) == Requirements installation 1. Install CentOS 5.2 A detailed overview of the install is beyond the scope of this document but a base install plus the development packages should be sufficient for getting started. This document was written using CentOS 5.2 64-bit. Note: Be sure to set the operating system time zone to UTC or the backround job processing will not work properly. Note: Be sure to setuid the mount.cifs and umount.cifs commands or the background job processin will not work properly. # chmod +s /sbin/mount.cifs # chmod +s /sbin/umount.cifs 2. Install Ruby Enterprise Edition Ruby Enterprise Edition requires MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite development libraries, so be sure to install them first. # yum install mysql-devel # yum install postgresql-devel # yum install sqlite-devel For some operating systems it also requires "standard" Ruby be installed as a limited number of light-weight interpreters are included. # yum install ruby After unpacking the Ruby Enterprise Edition package, run the installer. Be sure to read all of the instructions and follow the prompts. In most cases, the defaults are fine to use. RubyGems and Ruby on Rails will be installed automatically along with several dependancy gems (mysql, etc.). # ./ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/installer Now that Ruby Enterprise Edition is installed we don't need "standard" Ruby. Remove the "standard" Ruby so it doesn't cause any conflicts. # yum uninstall ruby Make some symlinks for convenience. # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/erb /usr/bin/erb # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/gem /usr/bin/gem # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/irb /usr/bin/irb # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/rackup /usr/bin/rackup # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/rails /usr/bin/rails # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/rake /usr/bin/rake # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/rdoc /usr/bin/rdoc # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/ri /usr/bin/ri # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/ruby /usr/bin/ruby # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/testrb /usr/bin/testrb 3. Install Apache and Passenger (mod_rails) gem # yum install httpd # yum install httpd-devel # gem install passenger # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/passenger-config /usr/bin/passenger-config # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/passenger-install-apache2-module /usr/bin/passenger-install-apache2-module # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/passenger-make-enterprisey /usr/bin/passenger-make-enterprisey # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/passenger-m /usr/bin/passenger-memory-stats # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/passenger-memory-stats /usr/bin/passenger-memory-stats # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/passenger-spawn-server /usr/bin/passenger-spawn-server # ln -s /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/passenger-stress-test /usr/bin/passenger-stress-test # passenger-install-apache2-module Create a file at /etc/httpd/conf.d/passenger.conf with the following lines: LoadModule passenger_module /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/passenger-2.0.3/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/passenger-2.0.3 PassengerRuby /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.6-20080810/bin/ruby NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName elocker.microsoft.com DocumentRoot "/var/www/rails/elocker/public" RailsEnv development RailsAllowModRewrite off <directory "/var/www/rails/elocker/public"> Order allow, deny Allow from all </directory> </VirtualHost> ** Be sure to modify any configuration directives to fit your installation. ** 4.
