===================
 SimpleOrder
===================

This is a simple web application programmed in Scala, JDBC and SBT. The application is meant to be a tutorial.

===================
 Installation
===================

1. You install this application by deploying the file:

  /bin/SimpleOrder.war

to some app server. The file /WEB-INF/web.xml holds the configuration parameters for the database. The default settings are:

   <init-param>
      <param-name>db-server</param-name>
      <param-value>localhost</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
      <param-name>db-username</param-name>
      <param-value>simpleorder</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
      <param-name>db-password</param-name>
      <param-value>secret</param-value>
    </init-param>

2. SimpleOrder needs a MySQL database with a database "simpleorder":

mysql> create database simpleorder;

  ... and a user "simpleorder":

mysql> GRANT ALL
    ON simpleorder.*
    TO simpleorder@localhost
    IDENTIFIED BY 'secret';

  ... and a table "product_order":

mysql> CREATE TABLE product_order (id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
  customer VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL,
  product VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL,
  quantity INT NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (id)
);

You need to add some data too, try this:

mysql> INSERT INTO product_order (customer, product, quantity)
  VALUES ('Sven Ericsson', 'Paron', 1);

===================
 Usage
===================

Let's say you deploy the JAR with the application name "a" at localhost port 80.

Call this app like this:

  http://localhost/a/

... and you will see a HTML page that displays the content of the table "product_order".

===================
  Build the code
===================

You need the following to build:

* Scala 2.7.7 (To be able to run SBT)
* SBT

The code is depending on Scala 2.8.0, but this version will be downloaded by SBT during build.

When you have sbt installed, just go to the root directory of this project and type:

  bash$ sbt

  sbt> update

  sbt> compile

  sbt> package

Now you can find the packed WAR-file in this dir:

  ./target/scala_2.8.0/simpleorder_2.8.0-1.0.war
