adapted from example of simple convolutional neural net example from tensorflow documentation
used with all permissions witheld for open source evaluation. written in python 
implementing tensorflow.

USE: python3 cnn_mnist.py

note: training for neural net takes ~1 hour on 2015 MBP with 2.5 GhZ i7 processor

convolutional layer 1 -> pooling layer 1 -> dropout layer(50% dropout) ->
