ascii-paint

ascii-paint is a clone of the original ascii-paint by and . The project was abandoned in 2011 and was forked by Ben Porter (see the bitbucket page), which was then subsequently abandoned in 2013.

I decided to clone the original repository because Google Code is shutting down, and because the original code doesn’t compile or link with the latest version of libtcod.

building

The build process is linked to the build process of “libtcod”, which you can also find in my repositories list. Both installations are described here.

  • Clone the libtcod repository, switch to the tcod directory and build tcod via mkdir build && cd build && cmake .. && make. For this to work you might have to install some dependencies, namely: sdl-dev, sdl-image-dev and opengl-dev. Appropriate packages are available for all systems.
  • Clone the ascii-paint repository, switch to its directory and initialize cmake via mkdir build && cd build && cmake -D tcod_DIR=$x/build .. where you substitute $x by the directory in which you checked out libtcod.
  • Build ascii-paint via make in der build/ directory.
  • You can now start ascii-paint from the root project directory (it needs the ascii-paint.cfg file in its working directory).

status

I got the executable to compile with libtcod again. Mouse and keyboard input seems to work. There are some random crashes because of out of bounds checking, though.
