Moving renaming the notes database

scrod edited this page Nov 6, 2012 · 5 revisions

Once an initial notes database has been established in NV, it can be relocated simply by moving the Notational Data folder (by default in ~/Library/Application Support/) from the Finder. Because this folder is tracked using alias data, the application does not need to be notified, and in fact should be able to tolerate the database directory being relocated while still saving and reading notes.

Be aware: NV tracks only the notes folder. If the Notes & Settings file itself is moved then NV will recreate a new (potentially empty) one in the notes folder on the next full DB sync.

Opening the User Library Folder

On OS X 10.7 Lion and higher, the Library folder in your home folder is hidden by default. To open it, you can do the following:

  1. Switch to Finder
  2. Click the “Go” menu at the top of the screen
  3. While holding down the Option key, select the “Library” item.

Spotlight Integration

For Spotlight to index your notes (assuming Preferences > Notes > Storage is set to use separate files), it may be necessary to move your Notational Data folder outside of ~/Library/ (e.g., into ~/Documents/ instead).
