Hamburg, Germany

Hey there 🙋‍♂️

although I'm known as a hacker over here, I work as a comedian🎤 and trainer for improvisational theatre. To me both are the same thing. It's about managing expectations. It doesn't matter if it's a comedy punchline or a function parameter.

I try to make the world a safer place and get the knowledge out there: Most of my spare time is spent with pentesting / auditing public services and source code. I also do research on social engineering, I lecture books about security and provide mentoring for cyber security students. I'm a member of the well known Chaos Computer Club, and an active part of the hamburg community.

Like many others, I do everything for free.

So maybe you got a mail from me about "responsible disclosure" and bugs I found in your application. Maybe we met after a talk at a conference and know you found my GitHub account. Maybe we met on Discord in a CTF channel and I explained my exploit to you. Nice to meet you.

I was asked to put my views into a quote for a PACKT book some time ago, so I came up with this:

Hacking is not the desire in breaking things. It's the desire becoming a smart-ass in things you know nothing about - so others don't have to.

I gladly accept your sponsorship without noted extras to you if

  • my advice was already valuable to you or
  • you don't have to become a smart-ass because of me.

Did I mention I do everything for free?

Well, I'll buy a ramen meal or to for myself, but that's it. I will share the rest of the money with the local hacking community in hamburg. This means buying computers for kids. Paying for courses, or inviting poorer hackers for dinner. Spending money on infrastructure for the community, or in the worst case: decline gigs that pay, so I can teach more.

If you speak german (or even if not), feel free to follow me on Twitter or Instagram for cynical world comments.

Thank you.
