Set up an inline SVG img element:
<img src="example.svg" alt="" />
Then apply an alternative GIF, JPEG, PNG-8 image via data-svgswap attribute:
<img src="example.svg" data-svgswap="example.png" alt="" />
Use HTML5 Boilerplate or at least the conditional comments:
