馃憢 hey thoughtbot, how are you?

I'm interested in doing a printed version of this book. Mainly, I just want one copy for myself, but I've also gotten an email or two asking about it, so I'm open to selling them in some way too.

I'm opening this Issue to ask:

  • Is that cool with you all? (with or without the potential selling part)
  • Have you ever done this and do you recommend any printing (and/or sales) shops?

Tagging some specific folks who maybe could speak to this, or tag in whoever can:

Hey Pat! Things are good here. Hope you're doing well! :emoji:

I have no objection to a print version of the book existing. If they're available, I bet some of our studios would like a copy.

I haven't personally had a book in print before, but I know that @cpytel has. I think @joshuaclayton may have published a book on Blueprint, but I'm not sure.

We're pretty busy so it may be a while before we can get to this, but we are not ignoring you.

I believe The Playbook is the only one of the books we have printed, and we did it as larger runs of 100+ so we worked with an actual print shop on that. For small runs, I think there are online platforms that can do that (like http://www.lulu.com/create/books/), but I haven't actually used any of them.

Thanks for the reply!

I was indeed recommended Lulu elsewhere, and it was surprisingly easy and inexpensive to print a single copy (~$10), so I went ahead and did that as a test. I made some arbitrary decisions about binding and gloss, and put zero effort into creating a real cover asset... so I'm going to see how it goes and, if I can dial in the right settings and make a proper cover, possibly do a larger run and/or put it up for sale through them. I'll report back here if I get that far.
