Vim Mutiny
==========

Goal: Total re-write of the Vim core to make it operable, extensible, pluggable, and lovable.

Newvim is a cleanroom implementation of an input core + editor buffers + screen
display + newscript... and then uses newscript to implement all of newvim's
functionallity... every keypress, every function, every mapping, every
option...

NOTE: The name newvim here is merely a placeholder. We will need a real name.
Tentative suggestions include:

* vj - vi++
* seven / se7en / vii (unavailable - name of a Wii clone)
* vise - Vi like Scripted Editor - is it /s/ or /z/?
* yavi - Yet another Vim Immitator
* vix - because vii is unavailable

Implement the core in C99 and expose a rich API and HLL interface.

I have long wished for Vim power in other applications. The new Vim core will
be designed in such a way that it could be used in other applications to create
vim-modal-like functionality in mail clients, shells, pdf viewers, window
managers, web browsers, graphics editors, etc... The time for Vim to take over
the application sphere has ARRIVED. :D

New Features
------------

* Full support for vimscript.
* A new scripting language to be what vimscript isn't - all new scripts should
  be written in this.
* Lexer / Parser interface accessible from the built-in scripting language so
  that plugins and syntax files can actually parse the code.
* Asynchronous process control - e.g., communicating with gdb
* Options iterator - to get the current set of option names and values in
  newscript.
* normal-mode key-press logging (not macros) - goal here is to be able to watch
  and advise on suboptimal habits
* Real (actual) shell integration
* Multiple filetype settings for different sections within one file (e.g. perl + POD)
* ? Motion undo
* ? Clickable LHS fold markers and fold delineators in the GUI (terminal?)
