Sounds like not quite the intended use of CAS, but if it works for you, then why not.

However for now I think I'm going to hold off on merging in the inactivity timeout code into the master branch. I'm worried this could potentially add even more confusion to the CAS config. I would also rather discourage users from adopting an authenticate-on-every-request strategy, since there are countless pitfalls along the way there.

Okay so it will work with authenticate_on_every_request, but you will almost never have this option enabled. It's meant for testing or for very special circumstances. Routing every single request through the CAS server is extremely slow, and CAS wasn't really meant to be used this way.

If we want inactivity timeouts implemented, I think the only reasonable way to do it would be to send the desired inactivity timeout to the client (in the CAS response) and ask the client to enforce it by forcing re-authentication after the given timeout.
