We are in the (very early) process of changing dat to become levelup interface compatible.
When that is done I guess you would be able to do

lrep.install(datInstance, log, config)

(see dat-ecosystem/dat#117 for more info)

Is there any plan for having deferred replication? In dat we don't want to replicate until a user does pull/push etc. As I understand it level-replicator continuously replicates currently.

+1 I've been making a major change (allow user to manage the
connection protocol),
so now would be a good time for me to make this change too.
