Design is responsive, but not on large displays

The Contemporary theme is responsive, but not for displays larger than around 1500 pixels in width.

When the theme is used on full hd, a white border is left and right of the content. If the screen is UHD, the content area is very small. I attached a screenshot with a width of around 2700 (I scaled it a bit down for uploading). But I think you see the problem there.

Is it possible to set a higher maximum width somewhere? It would be great if the content area and the navigation would be resize when the screen becomes larger than 1500 pixels.
