DFS
After resetting the admin password as required at every initial login, I used sconfig to configure the network and computer name. I made the computer names DFS1-jibreel and DFS2-jibreel before adding them to the domain. I made the DNS servers 10.0.5.10.
I followed the same steps for both computers however for DFS2 I encountered random issues with accessibility. Restarting the server fixed the issue.
Step 1: On MGMT01, go to Server Manager > (right click) All Servers > Add Servers. Look up 'dfs' and add both DFS computers as a server
Step 2: Up on top, click Manage > Add Roles and Features. Go through the wizard, add the File Server Role to DFS 1 and 2 if they are not already installed. You may also need to add RSAT (Remote Server Administration Tools) > Role Administration Tools
Step 3: Install DFS Management tools and roles on MGMT. Install DFS namespace and replication on MGMT as well as DFS replication on both DFS servers
Create a new DFS Namespace on MGMT01, making it a namespace server.
Name the namespace “dfsshare”, editing the share permissions to allow all users read & write to a local path of C:\DFSRoots\dfshare for a domain-based namespace. See screenshot below.
If you run into this issue:
It is likely because you did not install the proper roles
