A variety of compile fixes which appear when legacy is disabled #1651

Assorted compile fixes and update to the latest ITK. This is a follow-up to #1650.

Fixes the following compile error:

I don't know whether this is the right thing to do.
I was primarily trying to get it to compile.

Example message:
