PNanoVDB: get lower handle of coord

I'm trying to access the average, min, max of different node levels and wondered if it was possible to calculate the pnanovdb_lower_handle_t, pnanovdb_upper_handle_t directly or how I should go about it.
Currently, I'm accessing the values with the handle stored in the read accessor like:

    pnanovdb_address_t address = pnanovdb_readaccessor_get_value_address(gridType, volumeBuffer, accessor, pos);
    // pnanovdb_read_float(volumeBuffer, address);
    pnanovdb_lower_handle_t lowerHandle = accessor.lower;
    pnanovdb_address_t address = pnanovdb_lower_get_ave_address(gridType, volumeBuffer, lowerHandle);
    return pnanovdb_read_float(volumeBuffer, address);

It feels redundant to calculate two addresses.
Any hint would help :)
