How should comments be handled in the multilingual case? The options are:

  • Comments are specific to a language and only shown in the language they were written
  • Users can translate comments into other languages (the original is shown for untranslated comments)
  • Comments are not multilingual (current solution)
  • Comments are disabled in the multilingual case

I think the comments should be multilingual.

  • When a comment is written then it is assigned the language that the writer has currently chosen.
  • A user sees the content of the comment only if it is available in his language, otherwise there is an empty box with menu items
    • provide content
    • look at existing translations
  • There should be some guidelines
    • If the comment exists in another language then any translation should reflect this content
    • The content of the comment should not be language specific (e.g. "The next sentence contains a syntax error.")
  • In addition to having the notion of "original" comment, it would also be useful to have "most recently edited translation"
