I've been using the 'canvasapi' module (available via a simple PIP install) from the U. of Central Florida folks for some automation of Canvas (I also use rcanvas in R but it's less well-featured). It's possible that 'canvasapi' could be helpful, or perhaps more intuitive as it abstracts some things away (which could also not be so good if we want our students to learn more python details). Also, remember that Canvas is moving to GraphQL over time, and some things won't be able to be done with the existing RESTful API (even some important things can't be done now in the API...sigh).
