Action Button Does Nothing

I'm using a fairly new laptop with windows 10 installed. I downloaded Marathon Infinity since I was so jazzed to have a computer once again and man do I love the Marathon games. While playing Infinity I made it to Poor Yorrick, I believe, and was having some real difficulty completing the level. Killing the aliens was no problem. Turning on the switches for beating the level was. I watched a walk through that made this look cake. While playing either the switches at 2 different locations on the level or the final terminal was not activating. What a bummer.
Similar issue happend with Marathon 2. Button to get from level 1 to level two didn't work, at first, then one day randomly it did. Now I can't get past level 2 for the same reason.
