A simple bugfix release

It's been a while, and guess what... found brand new bugs. This time we had:

  • Old logs not being deleted
  • The app saying the game was up-to-date, while it definitely wasn't

All now fixed. Also added a setting on settings.ini to change how many logs are kept (25 by default).
I sadly had to remove my macOS VM install so the Mac version will be delayed for this release, but the Windows version is ready to download now.

...AND IT HAD A MASSIVE BUG

This is a hotfix for #8, this prevented the app to run completely but only when compiled, apparently. Please download this immediately.

1.0 IS OUT

We've worked very hard and here we have the next installment in updating technology. I'm serious, this is revolutionary. Like, how the hell is this even open source?? This should be a state guarded secret how good this shit is like damn

da changes:

  • Some nice improvements for the development team (me)
  • Added error handling for file IO while downloading
  • Organized some files
  • The last 10 logs are stored now instead of just the last one

Yeah, not super impressive but we needed to get this thing out the door so here's 1.0 for ya. Still some work to do, but the thing is fully functional and according to our very very very thorough testing, it might not be riddled with bugs.

This one should probably be a 1.0 release but I'm scared

After many years and millions of dollars[1] of R&D at androidWG Inc. we've managed to craft the best, most robust Python program ever written. This shit is so robust[2] and secure[3] even Mr. Python came to us asking for advice on how to make their platform better[4]. Here are only a small section of the massive amount of improvements our engineers have been cooking up.

  • Checks if OpenRCT2 is open before installing and wait for it to close (gives up at 5 minutes)
  • Sends the old ORCT2 install to the trash instead of deleting it on macOS (see issue #3)
  • Automatically adjusts the download progress bar to the size of the terminal
  • Times out GitHub requests that take longer than 3 minutes
  • Handles more errors
  • Has some nice banners/backgrounds on the installer

[1] Zimbabwean Dollars.
[2] We contacted Mr. LockPickingLawyer to test the robustness of our software, however he stated that he doesn't "work" with "software" and didn't know how it'd be possible to "lock pick an EXE". It was clearly heavily implied that he was frightened by the sheer imagination of the security of our software.
[3] Our highly trained baby primates were not able to figure out how to type out the root password on macOS.
[4] crazy right lol
[5] Did You Know?™ Our software lead Robert, who received many reports from other employees, was fired two months ago on suspicion of breaking company policy on code style. After a lengthy trial process, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison for using camel case in Python code and using exclusively 3 letter acronyms as variable names. Remember, your code WILL be automatically submitted to the Council, and the Council does not forgive or forget.

good news everyone! just learned what a try: except: is

Yeah, you heard me right, no more exceptions when we bother GitHub! This release adds internet connectivity checking and auto-retry, so even if you're roaming the Kazakhstani steppes with a shady internet carrier on your OG IBM ThinkPad, your OpenRCT2 install will be freshly updated and ready to rock.

Besides that, we also removed the tray icon on Windows to make the app fully silent and more in line with what happens in macOS, added a settings folder that holds a single setting (for now) and refactored a bit of code. Some good improvements I say!

Alright, I thought a little about the last release and decided to make an installer for you. I know, life can be hard sometimes, and maybe you don't want to manually setup tasks or (god forbid) running a Python script to get your OpenRCT2 updated. After some pain and suffering I manged to excrete the installers listed below. I think you'll like it. Have fun and stop playing with the electrical socket, your mom is very worried.

Also about that title: yes that is basically the whole reason why this app is named this way.

Hey. So uh, I know I dont talk to you often but... uh... I have a little toy for you. It updates the RCT2 open thing-a-majig. Yeah, cool right?

What? No no it doesn't run by itself. You need to go set it up. Setup instructions are this README thing. Go on, you're a big boy, you can do it yourself.

Watch out though because the bugger is riddled with bugs and errors and whatnot. Just be careful or you're gonna get bit by a fire ant or something.
