Checklist

  • I have used the search function for open and closed issues to see if someone else has already submitted the same bug report.
  • I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.
  • If the bug only to occurs with a certain podcast, I will include the URL of that podcast.

App version

3.1.0

Where did you get the app from

F-Droid

Android version

9

Device model

LG-H870 lucye (LG G6)

First occurred

About 4 weeks ago when we got the new FTTH connection

Steps to reproduce

  1. Connect to the Wifi which gets internet over FTTH (Deutsche Giganetz)
  2. Refresh AntennaPod feeds
  3. No new episodes
  4. Connect to the Wifi which gets internet over VDSL (Deutsche Telekom)
  5. Refresh AntennaPod feeds
  6. New episodes found, download starts

I tested this multiple times in the last weeks.
No crash reports or error messages apear, but the feeds won't get refreshed.

I know, that my FTTH Wifi has no public IPv4, only IPv6 and DS-lite.
My VDSL had only public IPv4, no IPv6.
Don't know if that has something to do with the problem, but I thought i should mention it.

Disable your VPN, ad blocker, Blockada, PiHole, etc.

None of those are active. As far as I understood DS-lite is kinda like a VPN. I think I should not disable DS-Lite because I can not access the IPv4 part of the internet if it is disabled.

Do episode downloads work?

Yes, if I download old epidodes, it works. Only the resresh and therefore the auto download does not work. It looks like it is working, i can see the list in the android dropdown menu getting smaller while the refresh. But when its done, no new episodes appear.

Anything interesting on the download logs page? (Small icon on the downloads screen)

Nothing. No indications that something went wrong.

Hmm, this sounds quite weird... Would you mind refreshing and then exporting the logs from the "report bug" screen? The logs might contain sensitive information. You can also send them to info@<my username>.com if you don't want to post them publicly

Hmm, the logs look perfectly fine. No crashes, it even goes through the results and stores them. Unfortunately, we don't log when new items are found. I will add that to AntennaPod 3.2 in #6661. My current guess would be that this is some kind of caching behavior, where the server of the podcast creator does not deliver new episodes immediately to different internet providers (because of CDNs)?

Can you reproduce the same problem with this feed? The feed has a new episode every time you refresh it.

Quoting from the email to keep the discussion in one place:

here is what i did before exporting the detailed log:

  • connect ftth wifi
  • refresh (no episodes appear)
  • connect vdsl wifi
  • refresh (two epidodes appear)
  • connect ftth wifi
  • refresh (no episodes appear)
  • connect vdsl wifi
  • refresh (two epidodes appear)

so i ended up with 4 episodes. looks like the refresh works, but the auto download does not start.

What do you mean with "no episodes appear"? You mean they don't get downloaded or they don't appear in the app at all (on the "all episodes" screen)?

I added the "all episodes" page to my sidebar. I've never used it before, disabled it long time ago and forgot about it at all. The new episodes show up on the "all episodes" page, but the download does not start automatically.

Okay. Does the download icon change to a dotted circle with a cancel symbol?

No, its a solid line circle with the download symbol inside

I'm going to close this issue because there is another issue talking about auto-download problems. This ensures that the discussion is kept in one place. See #6671
