Alright, let's see how this workflow works for us. Thanks for the first PR :-)
I don't know much about the watchdog subsystem. I've essentially just commented on general things based on the reviews I got on my upstreaming attempts so far.
Tested, and it appears to work with the current version.

Should I squash commits, or would we do that when merging? |
Please squash into the logical series. (We can't do that automatically when merging). For this PR, that means three commits: Subject: [PATCH 1/7] watchdog: apple_wdt: Add support for Apple M1 WDT with the other 4 commits squashed into those 3 as appropriate. |

To this best of my abilities |
there's typo in the dt-binding commit message where you have .txt instead of .yml (and I think you can drop the whole "apple, wdt.txt" part anyway). LGTM otherwise! edit: oh, and maybe run checkpatch.pl to be really sure and add the two files under the "ARM/APPLE MACHINE SUPPORT" in MAINTAINERS. |

Thank you very much! |
Nice! Looks good now i think. I’d merge it but given that Marcan wants to built some automatic rebasing hooks and create some feature branches I think it makes sense to wait for that. I think this could be submitted to upstream as well now :-) |

You could use the helper devm_platform_ioremap_resource(pdev, 0)
to replace platform_get_resource
followed by devm_ioremap_resource
.

The ordering of MSI-X enable in hardware is dysfunctional: 1) MSI-X is disabled in the control register 2) Various setup functions 3) pci_msi_setup_msi_irqs() is invoked which ends up accessing the MSI-X table entries 4) MSI-X is enabled and masked in the control register with the comment that enabling is required for some hardware to access the MSI-X table Step #4 obviously contradicts #3. The history of this is an issue with the NIU hardware. When #4 was introduced the table access actually happened in msix_program_entries() which was invoked after enabling and masking MSI-X. This was changed in commit d71d643 ("PCI/MSI: Kill redundant call of irq_set_msi_desc() for MSI-X interrupts") which removed the table write from msix_program_entries(). Interestingly enough nobody noticed and either NIU still works or it did not get any testing with a kernel 3.19 or later. Nevertheless this is inconsistent and there is no reason why MSI-X can't be enabled and masked in the control register early on, i.e. move step #4 above to step #1. This preserves the NIU workaround and has no side effects on other hardware. We update the ctime/mtime of a block device when we remove it so that blkid knows the device changed. However we do this by re-opening the block device and calling filp_update_time. This is more correct because it'll call the inode->i_op->update_time if it exists, but the block dev inodes do not do this. Instead call generic_update_time() on the bd_inode in order to avoid the blkdev_open path and get rid of the following lockdep splat: ====================================================== WARNING: possible circular locking dependency detected 5.14.0-rc2+ torvalds#406 Not tainted ------------------------------------------------------ losetup/11596 is trying to acquire lock: ffff939640d2f538 ((wq_completion)loop0){+.+.}-{0:0}, at: flush_workqueue+0x67/0x5e0 but task is already holding lock: ffff939655510c68 (&lo->lo_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: __loop_clr_fd+0x41/0x660 [loop] which lock already depends on the new lock. the existing dependency chain (in reverse order) is: -> #4 (&lo->lo_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}: __mutex_lock+0x7d/0x750 lo_open+0x28/0x60 [loop] blkdev_get_whole+0x25/0xf0 blkdev_get_by_dev.part.0+0x168/0x3c0 blkdev_open+0xd2/0xe0 do_dentry_open+0x161/0x390 path_openat+0x3cc/0xa20 do_filp_open+0x96/0x120 do_sys_openat2+0x7b/0x130 __x64_sys_openat+0x46/0x70 do_syscall_64+0x38/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae -> #3 (&disk->open_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}: __mutex_lock+0x7d/0x750 blkdev_get_by_dev.part.0+0x56/0x3c0 blkdev_open+0xd2/0xe0 do_dentry_open+0x161/0x390 path_openat+0x3cc/0xa20 do_filp_open+0x96/0x120 file_open_name+0xc7/0x170 filp_open+0x2c/0x50 btrfs_scratch_superblocks.part.0+0x10f/0x170 btrfs_rm_device.cold+0xe8/0xed btrfs_ioctl+0x2a31/0x2e70 __x64_sys_ioctl+0x80/0xb0 do_syscall_64+0x38/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae -> #2 (sb_writers#12){.+.+}-{0:0}: lo_write_bvec+0xc2/0x240 [loop] loop_process_work+0x238/0xd00 [loop] process_one_work+0x26b/0x560 worker_thread+0x55/0x3c0 kthread+0x140/0x160 ret_from_fork+0x1f/0x30 -> #1 ((work_completion)(&lo->rootcg_work)){+.+.}-{0:0}: process_one_work+0x245/0x560 worker_thread+0x55/0x3c0 kthread+0x140/0x160 ret_from_fork+0x1f/0x30 -> #0 ((wq_completion)loop0){+.+.}-{0:0}: __lock_acquire+0x10ea/0x1d90 lock_acquire+0xb5/0x2b0 flush_workqueue+0x91/0x5e0 drain_workqueue+0xa0/0x110 destroy_workqueue+0x36/0x250 __loop_clr_fd+0x9a/0x660 [loop] block_ioctl+0x3f/0x50 __x64_sys_ioctl+0x80/0xb0 do_syscall_64+0x38/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae other info that might help us debug this: Chain exists of: (wq_completion)loop0 --> &disk->open_mutex --> &lo->lo_mutex Possible unsafe locking scenario: CPU0 CPU1 ---- ---- lock(&lo->lo_mutex); lock(&disk->open_mutex); lock(&lo->lo_mutex); lock((wq_completion)loop0); *** DEADLOCK *** 1 lock held by losetup/11596: #0: ffff939655510c68 (&lo->lo_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: __loop_clr_fd+0x41/0x660 [loop] stack backtrace: CPU: 1 PID: 11596 Comm: losetup Not tainted 5.14.0-rc2+ torvalds#406 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (Q35 + ICH9, 2009), BIOS 1.13.0-2.fc32 04/01/2014 Call Trace: dump_stack_lvl+0x57/0x72 check_noncircular+0xcf/0xf0 ? stack_trace_save+0x3b/0x50 __lock_acquire+0x10ea/0x1d90 lock_acquire+0xb5/0x2b0 ? flush_workqueue+0x67/0x5e0 ? lockdep_init_map_type+0x47/0x220 flush_workqueue+0x91/0x5e0 ? flush_workqueue+0x67/0x5e0 ? verify_cpu+0xf0/0x100 drain_workqueue+0xa0/0x110 destroy_workqueue+0x36/0x250 __loop_clr_fd+0x9a/0x660 [loop] ? blkdev_ioctl+0x8d/0x2a0 block_ioctl+0x3f/0x50 __x64_sys_ioctl+0x80/0xb0 do_syscall_64+0x38/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae Reviewed-by: Anand Jain <anand.jain@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Josef Bacik <josef@toxicpanda.com> Reviewed-by: David Sterba <dsterba@suse.com> Signed-off-by: David Sterba <dsterba@suse.com>

But enabling a different block module results in forming circular locking dependency due to shared major_names_lock mutex. The simplest fix is to call probe function without holding major_names_lock [1], but Christoph Hellwig does not like such idea. Therefore, instead of holding major_names_lock in blkdev_show(), introduce a different lock for blkdev_show() in order to break "sb_writers#$N => &p->lock => major_names_lock" dependency chain. For this bug, jbd2_journal_restart() is called by ocfs2_split_extent() during defragmenting. How to fix For ocfs2_split_extent() can handle journal operations totally by itself. Caller doesn't need to call journal access/dirty pair, and caller only needs to call journal start/stop pair. The fix method is to remove journal access/dirty from __ocfs2_move_extent(). The issue turns out to be in pci_remove_root_bus() which first calls pci_remove_bus() which frees the struct pci_bus when its struct device is released. Then pci_bus_release_domain_nr() is called and accesses the freed struct pci_bus. Reordering these fixes the issue. …kernel/git/kvmarm/kvmarm into HEAD KVM/arm64 fixes for 6.3, part #4 - Plug a buffer overflow due to the use of the user-provided register width for firmware regs. Outright reject accesses where the user register width does not match the kernel representation. - Protect non-atomic RMW operations on vCPU flags against preemption, as an update to the flags by an intervening preemption could be lost.
Currently, the per cpu upcall counters are allocated after the vport is created and inserted into the system. This could lead to the datapath accessing the counters before they are allocated resulting in a kernel Oops. However it's possible for the copros count to be elevated if a process exits without first closing file descriptors that are associated with a copro, eg. VAS. If the process exits with a VAS file still open, the release callback is queued up for exit_task_work() via: exit_files() put_files_struct() close_files() filp_close() fput() And called via: exit_task_work() ____fput() __fput() file->f_op->release(inode, file) coproc_release() vas_user_win_ops->close_win() vas_deallocate_window() mm_context_remove_vas_window() mm_context_remove_copro() But that is after exit_mm() has been called from do_exit() and triggered the warning. Fix it by dropping the warning, and always calling __flush_all_mm(). In the normal case of no copros, that will result in a call to _tlbiel_pid(mm->context.id, RIC_FLUSH_ALL) just as the current code does. If the copros count is elevated then it will cause a global flush, which should flush translations from any copros. Note that the process table entry was cleared in arch_exit_mmap(), so copros should not be able to fetch any new translations. …f-times' Eduard Zingerman says: ==================== verify callbacks as if they are called unknown number of times This series updates verifier logic for callback functions handling. Current master simulates callback body execution exactly once, which leads to verifier not detecting unsafe programs like below: static int unsafe_on_zero_iter_cb(__u32 idx, struct num_context *ctx) { ctx->i = 0; return 0; } SEC("?raw_tp") int unsafe_on_zero_iter(void *unused) { struct num_context loop_ctx = { .i = 32 }; __u8 choice_arr[2] = { 0, 1 }; bpf_loop(100, unsafe_on_zero_iter_cb, &loop_ctx, 0); return choice_arr[loop_ctx.i]; } This was reported previously in [0]. The basic idea of the fix is to schedule callback entry state for verification in env->head until some identical, previously visited state in current DFS state traversal is found. Same logic as with open coded iterators, and builds on top recent fixes [1] for those. The series is structured as follows: - patches #1,2,3 update strobemeta, xdp_synproxy selftests and bpf_loop_bench benchmark to allow convergence of the bpf_loop callback states; - patches #4,5 just shuffle the code a bit; - patch #6 is the main part of the series; - patch #7 adds test cases for #6; - patch #8 extend patch #6 with same speculative scalar widening logic, as used for open coded iterators; - patch #9 adds test cases for #8; - patch #10 extends patch #6 to track maximal number of callback executions specifically for bpf_loop(); - patch #11 adds test cases for #10. Veristat results comparing this series to master+patches #1,2,3 using selftests show the following difference: File Program States (A) States (B) States (DIFF) ------------------------- ------------- ---------- ---------- ------------- bpf_loop_bench.bpf.o benchmark 1 2 +1 (+100.00%) pyperf600_bpf_loop.bpf.o on_event 322 407 +85 (+26.40%) strobemeta_bpf_loop.bpf.o on_event 113 151 +38 (+33.63%) xdp_synproxy_kern.bpf.o syncookie_tc 341 291 -50 (-14.66%) xdp_synproxy_kern.bpf.o syncookie_xdp 344 301 -43 (-12.50%) Veristat results comparing this series to master using Tetragon BPF files [2] also show some differences. States diff varies from +2% to +15% on 23 programs out of 186, no new failures. Changelog: - V3 [5] -> V4, changes suggested by Andrii: - validate mark_chain_precision() result in patch #10; - renaming s/cumulative_callback_depth/callback_unroll_depth/. - V2 [4] -> V3: - fixes in expected log messages for test cases: - callback_result_precise; - parent_callee_saved_reg_precise_with_callback; - parent_stack_slot_precise_with_callback; - renamings (suggested by Alexei): - s/callback_iter_depth/cumulative_callback_depth/ - s/is_callback_iter_next/calls_callback/ - s/mark_callback_iter_next/mark_calls_callback/ - prepare_func_exit() updated to exit with -EFAULT when callee->in_callback_fn is true but calls_callback() is not true for callsite; - test case 'bpf_loop_iter_limit_nested' rewritten to use return value check instead of verifier log message checks (suggested by Alexei). - V1 [3] -> V2, changes suggested by Andrii: - small changes for error handling code in __check_func_call(); - callback body processing log is now matched in relevant verifier_subprog_precision.c tests; - R1 passed to bpf_loop() is now always marked as precise; - log level 2 message for bpf_loop() iteration termination instead of iteration depth messages; - __no_msg macro removed; - bpf_loop_iter_limit_nested updated to avoid using __no_msg; - commit message for patch #3 updated according to Alexei's request. When scanning namespaces, it is possible to get valid data from the first call to nvme_identify_ns() in nvme_alloc_ns(), but not from the second call in nvme_update_ns_info_block(). In particular, if the NSID becomes inactive between the two commands, a storage device may return a buffer filled with zero as per 4.1.5.1. In this case, we can get a kernel crash due to a divide-by-zero in blk_stack_limits() because ns->lba_shift will be set to zero. It happens because the active ring_buffer_event doesn't actually come from the ring_buffer_per_cpu but is allocated from trace_buffered_event. The bug is in function trace_buffered_event_disable() where the following normally happens: * The code invokes disable_trace_buffered_event() via smp_call_function_many() and follows it by synchronize_rcu(). This increments the per-CPU variable trace_buffered_event_cnt on each target CPU and grants trace_buffered_event_disable() the exclusive access to the per-CPU variable trace_buffered_event. * Maintenance is performed on trace_buffered_event, all per-CPU event buffers get freed. * The code invokes enable_trace_buffered_event() via smp_call_function_many(). This decrements trace_buffered_event_cnt and releases the access to trace_buffered_event. A problem is that smp_call_function_many() runs a given function on all target CPUs except on the current one. The following can then occur: * Task X executing trace_buffered_event_disable() runs on CPU 0. * The control reaches synchronize_rcu() and the task gets rescheduled on another CPU 1. * The RCU synchronization finishes. At this point, trace_buffered_event_disable() has the exclusive access to all trace_buffered_event variables except trace_buffered_event[CPU0] because trace_buffered_event_cnt[CPU0] is never incremented and if the buffer is currently unused, remains set to 0. * A different task Y is scheduled on CPU 0 and hits a trace event. The code in trace_event_buffer_lock_reserve() sees that trace_buffered_event_cnt[CPU0] is set to 0 and decides the use the buffer provided by trace_buffered_event[CPU0]. * Task X continues its execution in trace_buffered_event_disable(). The code incorrectly frees the event buffer pointed by trace_buffered_event[CPU0] and resets the variable to NULL. * Task Y writes event data to the now freed buffer and later detects the created inconsistency. The issue is observable since commit dea4997 ("tracing: Fix warning in trace_buffered_event_disable()") which moved the call of trace_buffered_event_disable() in __ftrace_event_enable_disable() earlier, prior to invoking call->class->reg(.. TRACE_REG_UNREGISTER ..). The underlying problem in trace_buffered_event_disable() is however present since the original implementation in commit 0fc1b09 ("tracing: Use temp buffer when filtering events"). Fix the problem by replacing the two smp_call_function_many() calls with on_each_cpu_mask() which invokes a given callback on all CPUs. Since pci_walk_bus() already holds a pci_bus_sem read lock, use pci_enable_link_state_locked() to enable link states in order to avoid a potential deadlock (e.g. in case someone takes a write lock before reacquiring the read lock). … place apply_alternatives() treats alternatives with the ALT_FLAG_NOT flag set special as it optimizes the existing NOPs in place. Unfortunately, this happens with interrupts enabled and does not provide any form of core synchronization. So an interrupt hitting in the middle of the update and using the affected code path will observe a half updated NOP and crash and burn. The following 3 NOP sequence was observed to expose this crash halfway reliably under QEMU 32bit: 0x90 0x90 0x90 which is replaced by the optimized 3 byte NOP: 0x8d 0x76 0x00 So an interrupt can observe: 1) 0x90 0x90 0x90 nop nop nop 2) 0x8d 0x90 0x90 undefined 3) 0x8d 0x76 0x90 lea -0x70(%esi),%esi 4) 0x8d 0x76 0x00 lea 0x0(%esi),%esi Where only #1 and #4 are true NOPs. The same problem exists for 64bit obviously. Disable interrupts around this NOP optimization and invoke sync_core() before re-enabling them. [ Upstream commit 65e8fbd ] There is this reported crash when experimenting with the lvm2 testsuite. The list corruption is caused by the fact that the postsuspend and resume methods were not paired correctly; there were two consecutive calls to the origin_postsuspend function. The second call attempts to remove the "hash_list" entry from a list, while it was already removed by the first call. Fix __dm_internal_resume so that it calls the preresume and resume methods of the table's targets. If a preresume method of some target fails, we are in a tricky situation. We can't return an error because dm_internal_resume isn't supposed to return errors. We can't return success, because then the "resume" and "postsuspend" methods would not be paired correctly. So, we set the DMF_SUSPENDED flag and we fake normal suspend - it may confuse userspace tools, but it won't cause a kernel crash. ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernel BUG at lib/list_debug.c:56! invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP CPU: 1 PID: 8343 Comm: dmsetup Not tainted 6.8.0-rc6 #4 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.14.0-2 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:__list_del_entry_valid_or_report+0x77/0xc0 <snip> RSP: 0018:ffff8881b831bcc0 EFLAGS: 00010282 RAX: 000000000000004e RBX: ffff888143b6eb80 RCX: 0000000000000000 RDX: 0000000000000001 RSI: ffffffff819053d0 RDI: 00000000ffffffff RBP: ffff8881b83a3400 R08: 00000000fffeffff R09: 0000000000000058 R10: 0000000000000000 R11: ffffffff81a24080 R12: 0000000000000001 R13: ffff88814538e000 R14: ffff888143bc6dc0 R15: ffffffffa02e4bb0 FS: 00000000f7c0f780(0000) GS:ffff8893f0a40000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 002b ES: 002b CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 0000000057fb5000 CR3: 0000000143474000 CR4: 00000000000006b0 Call Trace: <TASK> ? die+0x2d/0x80 ? do_trap+0xeb/0xf0 ? __list_del_entry_valid_or_report+0x77/0xc0 ? do_error_trap+0x60/0x80 ? __list_del_entry_valid_or_report+0x77/0xc0 ? exc_invalid_op+0x49/0x60 ? __list_del_entry_valid_or_report+0x77/0xc0 ? asm_exc_invalid_op+0x16/0x20 ? table_deps+0x1b0/0x1b0 [dm_mod] ? __list_del_entry_valid_or_report+0x77/0xc0 origin_postsuspend+0x1a/0x50 [dm_snapshot] dm_table_postsuspend_targets+0x34/0x50 [dm_mod] dm_suspend+0xd8/0xf0 [dm_mod] dev_suspend+0x1f2/0x2f0 [dm_mod] ? table_deps+0x1b0/0x1b0 [dm_mod] ctl_ioctl+0x300/0x5f0 [dm_mod] dm_compat_ctl_ioctl+0x7/0x10 [dm_mod] __x64_compat_sys_ioctl+0x104/0x170 do_syscall_64+0x184/0x1b0 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x46/0x4e RIP: 0033:0xf7e6aead <snip> ---[ end trace 0000000000000000 ]--- Fixes: ffcc393 ("dm: enhance internal suspend and resume interface") Signed-off-by: Mikulas Patocka <mpatocka@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org>

commit f34e8bb upstream. The bug can be triggered by sending an amdgpu_cs_wait_ioctl to the AMDGPU DRM driver on any ASICs with valid context. The bug was reported by Joonkyo Jung <joonkyoj@yonsei.ac.kr>. For example the following code: static void Syzkaller2(int fd) { union drm_amdgpu_ctx arg1; union drm_amdgpu_wait_cs arg2; arg1.in.op = AMDGPU_CTX_OP_ALLOC_CTX; ret = drmIoctl(fd, 0x140106442 /* amdgpu_ctx_ioctl */, &arg1); arg2.in.handle = 0x0; arg2.in.timeout = 0x2000000000000; arg2.in.ip_type = AMD_IP_VPE /* 0x9 */; arg2->in.ip_instance = 0x0; arg2.in.ring = 0x0; arg2.in.ctx_id = arg1.out.alloc.ctx_id; drmIoctl(fd, 0xc0206449 /* AMDGPU_WAIT_CS * /, &arg2); } The ioctl AMDGPU_WAIT_CS without previously submitted job could be assumed that the error should be returned, but the following commit 1decbf6 modified the logic and allowed to have sched_rq equal to NULL. As a result when there is no job the ioctl AMDGPU_WAIT_CS returns success. The change fixes null-ptr-deref in init entity and the stack below demonstrates the error condition: [ +0.000007] BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000028 [ +0.007086] #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode [ +0.005234] #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page [ +0.005232] PGD 0 P4D 0 [ +0.002501] Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP KASAN NOPTI [ +0.005034] CPU: 10 PID: 9229 Comm: amd_basic Tainted: G B W L 6.7.0+ #4 [ +0.007797] Hardware name: ASUS System Product Name/ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI), BIOS 1401 12/03/2020 [ +0.009798] RIP: 0010:drm_sched_entity_init+0x2d3/0x420 [gpu_sched] [ +0.006426] Code: 80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 e8 1a 81 82 e0 49 89 9c 24 c0 00 00 00 4c 89 ef e8 4a 80 82 e0 49 8b 5d 00 48 8d 7b 28 e8 3d 80 82 e0 <48> 83 7b 28 00 0f 84 28 01 00 00 4d 8d ac 24 98 00 00 00 49 8d 5c [ +0.019094] RSP: 0018:ffffc90014c1fa40 EFLAGS: 00010282 [ +0.005237] RAX: 0000000000000001 RBX: 0000000000000000 RCX: ffffffff8113f3fa [ +0.007326] RDX: fffffbfff0a7889d RSI: 0000000000000008 RDI: ffffffff853c44e0 [ +0.007264] RBP: ffffc90014c1fa80 R08: 0000000000000001 R09: fffffbfff0a7889c [ +0.007266] R10: ffffffff853c44e7 R11: 0000000000000001 R12: ffff8881a719b010 [ +0.007263] R13: ffff88810d412748 R14: 0000000000000002 R15: 0000000000000000 [ +0.007264] FS: 00007ffff7045540(0000) GS:ffff8883cc900000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 [ +0.008236] CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 [ +0.005851] CR2: 0000000000000028 CR3: 000000011912e000 CR4: 0000000000350ef0 [ +0.007175] Call Trace: [ +0.002561] <TASK> [ +0.002141] ? [ Upstream commit f8bbc07 ] vhost_worker will call tun call backs to receive packets. If too many illegal packets arrives, tun_do_read will keep dumping packet contents. When console is enabled, it will costs much more cpu time to dump packet and soft lockup will be detected. net_ratelimit mechanism can be used to limit the dumping rate. commit 9e985cb upstream. Drop support for virtualizing adaptive PEBS, as KVM's implementation is architecturally broken without an obvious/easy path forward, and because exposing adaptive PEBS can leak host LBRs to the guest, i.e. can leak host kernel addresses to the guest. Bug #1 is that KVM doesn't account for the upper 32 bits of IA32_FIXED_CTR_CTRL when (re)programming fixed counters, e.g fixed_ctrl_field() drops the upper bits, reprogram_fixed_counters() stores local variables as u8s and truncates the upper bits too, etc. Bug #2 is that, because KVM _always_ sets precise_ip to a non-zero value for PEBS events, perf will _always_ generate an adaptive record, even if the guest requested a basic record. Note, KVM will also enable adaptive PEBS in individual *counter*, even if adaptive PEBS isn't exposed to the guest, but this is benign as MSR_PEBS_DATA_CFG is guaranteed to be zero, i.e. the guest will only ever see Basic records. Bug #3 is in perf. intel_pmu_disable_fixed() doesn't clear the upper bits either, i.e. leaves ICL_FIXED_0_ADAPTIVE set, and intel_pmu_enable_fixed() effectively doesn't clear ICL_FIXED_0_ADAPTIVE either. I.e. perf _always_ enables ADAPTIVE counters, regardless of what KVM requests. Bug #4 is that adaptive PEBS *might* effectively bypass event filters set by the host, as "Updated Memory Access Info Group" records information that might be disallowed by userspace via KVM_SET_PMU_EVENT_FILTER. Bug #5 is that KVM doesn't ensure LBR MSRs hold guest values (or at least zeros) when entering a vCPU with adaptive PEBS, which allows the guest to read host LBRs, i.e. host RIPs/addresses, by enabling "LBR Entries" records. Disable adaptive PEBS support as an immediate fix due to the severity of the LBR leak in particular, and because fixing all of the bugs will be non-trivial, e.g. not suitable for backporting to stable kernels. Note! This will break live migration, but trying to make KVM play nice with live migration would be quite complicated, wouldn't be guaranteed to work (i.e. KVM might still kill/confuse the guest), and it's not clear that there are any publicly available VMMs that support adaptive PEBS, let alone live migrate VMs that support adaptive PEBS, e.g. QEMU doesn't support PEBS in any capacity. Since MOCK_HUGE_PAGE_SIZE was introduced it allows the core code to invoke mock with large page sizes. This confuses the validation logic that checks that map/unmap are paired. This is because the page size computed for map is based on the physical address and in many cases will always be the base page size, however the entire range generated by iommufd will be passed to map. Randomly iommufd can see small groups of physically contiguous pages, (say 8k unaligned and grouped together), but that group crosses a huge page boundary. The map side will observe this as a contiguous run and mark it accordingly, but there is a chance the unmap side will end up terminating interior huge pages in the middle of that group and trigger a validation failure. Meaning the validation only works if the core code passes the iova/length directly from iommufd to mock. syzkaller randomly hits this with failures like: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 11568 at drivers/iommu/iommufd/selftest.c:461 mock_domain_unmap_pages+0x1c0/0x250 Modules linked in: CPU: 0 PID: 11568 Comm: syz-executor.0 Not tainted 6.8.0-rc3+ #4 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.15.0-1 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:mock_domain_unmap_pages+0x1c0/0x250 Code: 2b e8 94 37 0f ff 48 d1 eb 31 ff 48 b8 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 48 21 c3 48 89 de e8 aa 32 0f ff 48 85 db 75 07 e8 70 37 0f ff <0f> 0b e8 69 37 0f ff 31 f6 31 ff e8 90 32 0f ff e8 5b 37 0f ff 4c RSP: 0018:ffff88800e707490 EFLAGS: 00010293 RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: 0000000000000000 RCX: ffffffff822dfae6 RDX: ffff88800cf86400 RSI: ffffffff822dfaf0 RDI: 0000000000000007 RBP: ffff88800e7074d8 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: ffffed1001167c90 R10: 0000000000000000 R11: 0000000000000000 R12: 0000000001500000 R13: 0000000000083000 R14: 0000000000000001 R15: 0000000000000800 FS: 0000555556048480(0000) GS:ffff88806d400000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 0000001b2dc23000 CR3: 0000000008cbb000 CR4: 0000000000350eb0 Call Trace: <TASK> __iommu_unmap+0x281/0x520 iommu_unmap+0xc9/0x180 iopt_area_unmap_domain_range+0x1b1/0x290 iopt_area_unpin_domain+0x590/0x800 __iopt_area_unfill_domain+0x22e/0x650 iopt_area_unfill_domain+0x47/0x60 iopt_unfill_domain+0x187/0x590 iopt_table_remove_domain+0x267/0x2d0 iommufd_hwpt_paging_destroy+0x1f1/0x370 iommufd_object_remove+0x2a3/0x490 iommufd_device_detach+0x23a/0x2c0 iommufd_selftest_destroy+0x7a/0xf0 iommufd_fops_release+0x1d3/0x340 __fput+0x272/0xb50 __fput_sync+0x4b/0x60 __x64_sys_close+0x8b/0x110 do_syscall_64+0x71/0x140 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x46/0x4e Do the simple thing and just disable the validation when the huge page tests are being run. …git/netfilter/nf Pablo Neira Ayuso says: ==================== Netfilter fixes for net The following patchset contains fixes for net: Patch #1 disallows anonymous sets with timeout, except for dynamic sets. Anonymous sets with timeouts using the pipapo set backend makes no sense from userspace perspective. Patch #2 rejects constant sets with timeout which has no practical usecase. This kind of set, once bound, contains elements that expire but no new elements can be added. Patch #3 restores custom conntrack expectations with NFPROTO_INET, from Florian Westphal. Patch #4 marks rhashtable anonymous set with timeout as dead from the commit path to avoid that async GC collects these elements. Rules that refers to the anonymous set get released with no mutex held from the commit path. Patch #5 fixes a UBSAN shift overflow in H.323 conntrack helper, from Lena Wang. netfilter pull request 24-03-07 * tag 'nf-24-03-07' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netfilter/nf: netfilter: nf_conntrack_h323: Add protection for bmp length out of range netfilter: nf_tables: mark set as dead when unbinding anonymous set with timeout netfilter: nft_ct: fix l3num expectations with inet pseudo family netfilter: nf_tables: reject constant set with timeout netfilter: nf_tables: disallow anonymous set with timeout flag ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240307021545.149386-1-pablo@netfilter.org Signed-off-by: Paolo Abeni <pabeni@redhat.com>
