The taxonomic rank of the most specific name in the scientific name.
Examples of taxonRank include species, genus, varietas, family.
The ALA uses taxonRank to inform where in the taxonomic hierarchy to attempt to match the name supplied to a name in the taxonomic backbone. If the taxon rank is not present, it can sometimes be deduced from the form of the supplied scientific name. Supplying a taxon rank makes name matching more reliable.
If the taxonomic rank is known, please supply it.
