I have created a bicep file to create an azure vm-availabilitySet. here is my bicep

when I deploy the bicep the VM never shows up. I was under the assumption that if I added in the resourced if the existing VM it would add it. did I misunderstand what the virtualMachines:[
{
id:virtualMachinesId
}
is used for?

You can not add a VM to an availability set after creation. The availability set must be created before the VM. When you deploy the VM you reference an existing availability set.
