Background

Sometimes it's not quick to get aware that CPU/Memory usage is abnormally high. System could still be responsive but workload processes could be randomly killed or timeout to serve requests. Identifying such issues are pretty easy to be automated while it requires experience for a human to get started.

Design

  • Set some thresholds
  • Check common system metrics CPU/memory/network usage
  • Report an alert when some metrics exceed thresholds.
