Cordova 9.0.0 does not reflect variables in config.xml anymore, breaking the firebase config workaround (apache/cordova-lib#750 (comment))

We should parse package.json.

Plans for 3.x are anyway to completely remove dependencies on Firebase and automatic config parsing, and extract this out into another dedicated plugin

We removed the firebase dependency in 3.0 as planned
