We have been using the 9.x branch on platform-backend for some time now without any issues. It might be the right time to merge it into master and release version 9.0.0, WDYT?
Fixes / minor improvements can still be merged to the 8.x branch (which would be created from last master commit before this merge) and released from there.
I will raise this PR on dev-sync.
