Some documentation for the Rockpool website, focusing on developing locally, using the custom branded blocks and forms.

Developing locally

The production site is hosted with Flywheel, so it's easiest to edit the site using their own tool, Local. It works with Windows and Mac.

The site pulled and pushed from the production site using this tool, and there's an option to exclude any database changes from the pushes, so that content added to the website since the last pull isn't overwritten.

Traditional FTP techniques will still work, and connection details are available in the Flywheel control panel.

The website uses a bespoke theme Rockpool 2018 and several custom plugins. The name of each plugin is prefixed with Rockpool. Each aspect of site functionality is handled by a different plugin in the interest of modularity.

The site also makes heavy use of the new Wordpress editor, Gutenberg. The editor is still in beta, so updates should be made with care (ideally on a local version of the site first) until it becomes a standard part of Wordpress later this year.
