Unauthorized: incorrect username or password #11
Comments
Sorry about that! Can’t think of a reason right now but I will investigate, although I can’t say that I know a lot about docker. I do know that Google Earth engine recently broke the way that the earth-engine module authenticates (and I’m working on fixed that by updating our procedures) but I doubt that’s related.
BTW what are you using it for?
Cheers
Chris

Hi, love the software and have been using it for the past 6 months. However, I tried pulling it up today and got this error:
PS C:\Windows\System32> docker pull chharding/touchterrain_jupyter Using default tag: latest Error response from daemon: Head "https://registry-1.docker.io/v2/chharding/touchterrain_jupyter/manifests/latest": unauthorized: incorrect username or password

Is a username and password now required?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So I nuked the image and all its layers from my PC so that docker pull would have to again d/l them, and that worked without the issue that you're having. I then asked CoPilot about the error an got this:
## Copilot
The error message "unauthorized: incorrect username or password" suggests that there is an issue with the Docker Hub authentication. This can happen for a few reasons:
- Incorrect Credentials: The user might be using the wrong username or password. It's important to note that the Docker CLI requires the Docker Hub username, not the email address used to register on Docker Hub, for login.
- Login Required: Even if the image is public, Docker might still require the user to be logged in to pull the image. The user can log in via the Docker CLI using the following command:
docker login --username your_username
- Credential Helper: If the user has previously logged in and their credentials have changed or expired, Docker might be using the old credentials stored by the credential helper. The user can try logging out and then logging back in to refresh the credentials:
docker logout
docker login
- Config File: There might be an issue with the Docker configuration file where the credentials are stored. The user can check the ~/.docker/config.json file for any incorrect saved credentials and remove them if necessary.
If the user is sure that they are using the correct username and password, they should try logging out and then logging back in to Docker Hub.
I also log into Dockerhub to check if there's anything about authentication but the only thing I can see is a private setting and my repo is public.
Can you try what CoPilot suggests and see if that helps? I honestly find it weird that it should not be possible for anybody to pull a public repo, Credentials or not but then again I'm still petti much a docker noob who just muddles through ...
Cheers
Chris

Chris, Thank you so much for the prompt response and action. I'm embarrassed to say the issue seems to have been me not authenticating my email with Docker Desktop when I first signed up. I waited for an email that never came so ignored it. I guess they give a certain amount of time before they lock down the account if you don't do that. I use it to print topographies. I love it :-). Thanks again! Marc |
No worries, it happens :)

I got another email sent to me, completed the process, and its running cherry right now.
Thank you so much for the program! It's amazing.

Thanks again!
