To me, this requirement defeats "As a manager, I want my consultants to register the hours worked as often as possible, so that they register the correct amout of hours".

Registering hours for a single day or just after working on an activity won't take you long in the current interface. Registering hours for the entire week or month will cost you some time. The time entry view was designed for exactly this reason. It is not intended for "mass entry". Personally, I'd vote for improving and uncluttering our current time entry view instead.
