I saw this plugin on DFFD earlier today, which allows separate tiles for text to the rest of the tiles - ie no more coffins as zeros and so on. Fricy confirms that it works; since is says OSX-only and I have no relevant skills I haven't tried building it for Windows.
If it works out, this would be a significant graphics upgrade - is anyone here aware of this or working on it?

I'll take a closer look at home. It uses quite a non-portable way of doing it. I think we could use a non-used creature as a way to load up texture (instead of finding texture loading function offsets and co.) and use simple renderer inheritance to do the same thing, though not sure, Q might have more insight...
Edit:Also we could implement that functionality in the graphics lib itself (and then ask toady to use that version)
