Well, this one was a bit rushed aye? Merry Christmas y'all!11

⚙ General Changes

  • Updated the 'Tip: Smilers hate light' hint due to confusion.
  • The Memerooms & Classic
    • Fixed the double-jumpscare bug and players not being able to respawn.
  • Christmas cutscene in the Main Menu.
  • Removed the Flashlight cookie, just experimenting.

🗺 Map Changes

Level 0
  • Restored Ambiental Music by C418
Level 1
  • The staircase area is more lit, and fixed the hitbox issue that prevented players from going down the stairs.
Sub-Level "Before This Game Existed"
  • Re-enabled and repalced the music in the cassette player.

Level 4

  • Slight layout changes.
  • Added small lore, and hint on where to interact, hopefully players will figure it out.

🎨 UI Changes

  • Added a confirm exit dialogue when exiting from in-game to main menu.
  • The warning icon when flashlight is on near smilers has been replaced and moved near the Stamina Bar.
  • Added a more nice audio transition from Main Menu to in-game.
  • Hint when running out of stamina.

🐞 Known Issues

  • Level 1 Out-Of-Bounds Bug

After a long time, destroyed sanity, and squeezed brains, a new update has been processed.

⚙ General Changes

  • The Memerooms (Gamemode)

    • Experience the most goofiest way to play Budget Backrooms
      • 21st century humor now has been added to Budget Backrooms
      • Quandale Dingle makes its appearance! He will chase you no matter what (definitely not Garry's Mod inspired)
      • Copyrighted music & sounds, good luck streaming the game on Twitch (Streamer Mode is available from the Gamemode page)
        • Or any other platform that gives an instant DMCA Strike and takes your whole stream down trollface
  • Redesigned Video Settings

    • AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0 (AMD FSR 1.0 for short) has now been integrated into the game. [it's up to you if you really want to enable it]
      • Anti-Aliasing must be set to Low or better in order for this option to be available.
      • The resolution slider has been removed in favour of this function for now. (not sponsored)
      • More FPS, at the expense of image quality.
      • You can choose from the options:
        • Ultra Quality
        • Quality
        • Balanced
        • Performance
        • Off
  • More (integrated) Achievements.

  • Audio Settings is now more customizable.

    • Wow! You can disable the main menu music?!11
  • Changed Audio Subsystem to Steam Audio (screw you Google Resonance for loud sounds).

  • New Main Menu cutscene.

  • Added The Fog.

  • You can die in two ways in Level 1.

  • Attempted to improve flaslight cookie and range.

  • Player(s) can now disable Discord RPC Integration (requires game restart)

  • Smilers now get a slight delay before attacking.

  • Partial controller support.

  • Camera Sensivity is now customizable.

🗺 Map Changes

Level 0
  • Fixed Arrow Color
  • Changed the Howler's post processing effect when really close to entity.
Level "!"
  • More reflections, and increased Smiler Speed, with a slight jumpscare

Other Changes

  • Added Level 4 and Level 1 A2 and another "secret" one (Annex 2, Level 1 alternate variation, and a new sub-level for level 0)

🎨 UI Changes

  • New Main Menu UI.
  • All the settings are now available, and can be customized in-game without having to switch to the Main Menu!!!!!!
  • Resized the controls corner reminder.
  • Added a "seamless" transition between levels (loading text).
  • More yapping in the Disclaimer Screen.
  • Buttons that open a link in the browser will show a tooltip instead of an extra dialogue.

New Release! What's new?

⚙ General Changes

  • NVIDIA Ansel, press ALT + F2 to trigger it in game.

  • Unused Levels (Gamemode)

    • There are 3 levels added into the gamemode.
    • Pause menu is now detected as "Debug Mode". In the future it will include a little cheat menu for the user to tweak and have fun to. Currently it only shows "Debug Mode" for fancy look.
  • The Sprint System is now remade and with possible fixes.

    • Dynamic FOV (when sprinting, fov increases, zooming should be bug free, there is a slight animation bug and I can't do much about it because two instances of fov r running and the game gets confused, no idea).
    • You now have to stay in place for 3s to regenerate stamina.
  • Changes to the player speed and stamina.

  • You are now able to delete your saved data.

    • What's being reset?
      • Achievements.
      • Map Data.
      • Map state (if you picked up the flashlight for example).
      • One-time dialogues.
    • Access the Pause Menu and in the left upper corner of the screen there should be a trash icon.
      • The button is also available in the Main Menu -> Settings -> Other Settings -> "Delete saved data"
  • Google Resonance is back in business.

  • Fixed the graphical color artifacts that would appear on some GPUs (including mine, it was a project config issue apparently).

  • Controller support has been deprecated and remove, in the favour of a complete remake for the system in the near future

🗺 Map Changes

Level 0
  • Level 0's exit has been modified, it's still at the same location.

  • Lights in Level 0 are now able to start acting funny.

  • The noclippable floor should have a discoverable area nearby.

  • The Howler should be more capable of seeing the player. Its speed has been slowed down so you can escape from him more easily. I won't have mercy once I release the Hardcore gamemode

  • There are now Deja Vu signs scattered around the place, you have to play the game at least once to see them.

Level 1
  • Level 1 got a complete make-over, it should be more laggy and interesting because I'm an incapable person to make static lighting.
    • More props.
    • Exit has been slightly relocated.
Level "You Cheated"
  • The untextured part at the beginning was fixed.

    • "The Void" (or the thing that teleports you back)'s collision box was extended so you don't need to restart if you somehow get out of bounds.
    • Light flickering
    • You now have the flashlight and sprinting system.

🎨 UI Changes

  • Fixed the dropdown buttons in the Main Menu
    • The user could click the wiki and GitHub button even if it didn't show there.
  • Little text in the Main Menu.
  • A small chance to have a random icon when loading the game (from opening the game to the warning screen).
  • More use of the tooltips system.

🐞 Known Issues

  • Level 1 Optimization.
  • Possible audio glitches because of Google Resonance. Report them ASAP :(
  • FOV glitches when sprinting & zooming at the same time.

New Release! What's new?

⚙ General Changes

  • Optimized Level 0, 1 & 2.
  • Cutscene in Level 0.
  • New Flashlight system.
  • Music.
  • More, Sound Effects because why not.
  • Spawn of LV0 has been slightly relocated.
  • Optimized walls for Level 0, they had a lot of vertices from Unreal Engine goofy ahh LOD System.
  • You can now use the Audio Settings section from the Main Menu.
  • New Mechanic for Level 2.
  • Level 2 lights have been relocated.

🎨 UI Changes

  • Main Menu UI is now a tiny bit smaller.
  • GitHub button was relocated in the mini drawer near the settings button.
  • Click the Version button.
  • Dot Crosshair now smaller.
  • New graphic test room thingy in Video Settings from the Main Menu, please I need feedback, should I keep it?.

🐞 Known Issues

  • Reverb temporarily disabled, because of a bug from Google Resonance making the sounds being earrape. Issue still being investigated, everything works normally in editor but packaged build not.

  • Partially improved the Howler AI, not the best, still working on it.
  • Howler's head is now correctly rotated.

  • Nicer decorations for Level 1
  • Added Smiler and a nice mechanic.
  • Added Level 2.
  • Arrows on Level 0 to guide you to the exit. (May not be accurate).

Pre-release v0.0.6-pre1

This is a pre-release, which means it's a preview of what's coming to v0.0.6. More previews coming soon, maybe? Take this version as a “what has the developer been doing past these months” version.

🤖 AI / Entity Changes

New release! What's new?

🤖 AI / Entity Changes

  • Added a placeholder sound cue when the entity is nearby.
  • The AI is a little bit more smarter (still working on it).

⚙ General Changes

  • Reduced camera smoothness.
  • Balanced sprint, lasts more and gives more speed, now faster than the entity so you can escape that 1 pixel of getting caught.
  • Fixed that second click needed to make the player camera work.
  • Fixed the dialogue when exiting an unfinished level.
  • Added interactions (press E to interact with an interactable object)
  • Added an interesting 1-minute long cinematic in the main menu
  • Added Level 1, still WIP
  • Added partial controller support, buttons work but you can't interact with the UI when a controller is connected.

🎨 UI Changes

  • Now you can restart the level from the pause menu
  • A new "gamemode" menu that's still work in progress.
  • Added a FPS statistics button (only accessed from the video settings from the main menu sorry guys i was lazy)

🐞 Known Issues

  • Light bleeding it's still not fixed, but it's at it's minimal.

  • Remade the settings menu on the main menu (temporarily only the video settings work)
  • Added random camera animation on the Main Menu
  • Re-added jumping, for now
  • Changed the floor fabric texture
  • Made the sprint bar a little bit smaller and transparent

Budget Backrooms | Major Update (v0.0.3 Alpha)

New release! What's new?

  • Expanded map
  • Now there's an exit out of Level 0
  • UI Sounds
  • Sprint (took a lot of time to add but it generally works with minor glitches)
  • An placeholder cube which acts as an AI, spawned in the middle of the map, does follow the player but you can get easily rid of it intentionally. (took a lot of time too just to make the behavior tree)
  • Removed Jumping because it's useless for now.

🐞 Known Issues

  • When sprinting and going into the exit door, the sprint progress bar gets stuck, even after continuing the game, you can press BACKSPACE to restart the level if you want.
