My Dad suggests gentle use of a wire brush, then acetone if that doesn't work. Do we have a wire brush?

I think we've got a wire brush. Possibly one that fits in a drill too (not that you'd want anything other than a hand one for cleaning the files, but that would work if we can't find a standard wire brush). Though if we haven't got a standard wire brush, we should get one.
