It would be very nice to be able to sort notes by date. This would also be very helpful if you could use a bbox instead of a search query (or both) since you might want to go through all notes in a certain area.

Juts zoom in…

How do you imagine this on the map?

This might make more sense for the expert mode: e.g. having a button which then sorts the notes either in an ascending or descending order. Currently the descending order is the default (and can not be changed...)

Zooming in doesn't seem to work. I have zoomed in quite a bit and when I click search it still searches the entire world. The list mode would be nice to be able to be sorted, or for example have different colours for different age of notes on the map.

That's definitively a bug, so better open a new issue for that.
Did you notice it shows you a message before you click on the search button in worldwide view? That message tells you to zoom in if you need a faster query.

It works if you zoom far enough, but by then you are so far zoomed in you might as well use the ordinary website. I want to search for notes for example in a specific country and get them listed or in some way indicated by date.

The reason why you have to zoom in so far is that this is a restriction of the API which allows the requested size to be only below 25 square degrees... The same limit applies also to the OSM website which is why the only difference would be that this tool can filter notes by a query.
For more information on the bbox feature see #6.

or for example have different colours for different age of notes on the map.

But this should only apply to open notes, should not it?
So, what age do you consider old? 1 month? 6 months? 1 year?

Regarding the bbox, an idea would be to demand a download of notes in a certain area and then be able to make queries on those downloaded notes, kind of how you can download notes in Josm.

Regarding age - different cutoff times I guess. It's always going to arbitrary if the date is not stamped on them on the map. 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years maybe.

I extended the area of the local search via bbox (if the bounding box is larger than 25 square degrees, it is divided into 4 parts). So now it should be possible to make queries on areas as big as 400 square degrees.

There are now different badges with different colors for different ages of the notes.

So IMO everything is fixed now...
