Invoices should expire after some pre-determined timeout is reached. Especially important for invoices quoted in fiat currencies, where the exchange rate should only be locked-in for limited time.

It appears like c-lightning already expires invoices internally, but doesn't provide a way to control it over RPC.

Added in 68ff299 (expiry configuration over REST API), 37699ec (expire API calls), fabee83 (expire checkout page) and d456ca6 (checkout client-side).
