Requesting Help for Chests

Eric Myllyoja edited this page Nov 16, 2020 · 3 revisions

Implementing information about chests has been an arduous and difficult task plagued with issues.

The new site (which is based on Yuanshen.site) seeks to categorize these chests, one for Seelies, one for Challenges/Time Trials, and one for each of Common, Exquisite, Precious, and Luxurious chests. The major issue is that the ~1,500 chests in the original data set were not sorted in any way. They were simply grouped into a massive Chests category.

The approach I used was to manually sort the comment images (placing in Common where ambiguous) then develop an automated process to split the data that way. The main issue was this was that it was prone to error; often the chest is not visible in the image, and many of the comment images were taken on a beta version of the game which uses a different chest model.

If you are looking to help, your role is simple.

  • Open GenshinMap and enable the Chests on your map.
  • Scan over the chests, and inspect their comment images. You can click them to display a popup with their ID and the comment image, if available. Search for chests which are miscategorized, use the old chest model, or are vague and unhelpful in their description, or have no description at all.
    • Validate the chest locations, cross-referencing with the game, YouTube videos, or other maps to ensure they are correct.
    • Validate the rarity of the chest. Several higher rarity chests may have been placed in the common folder, and several .
    • Check for outdated chest location images. May images appear to use an old closed beta chest model whose rarity cannot be determined.
    • Write a title and description if the chest merits more information on how to obtain it. Is it locked behind a puzzle? Is it hard to reach, or located behind a breakable wall?
  • If there are any chests for which you wish to contribute an image to, correct the rarity on, or provide a description to obtain, note these down along with an ID and create a new issue on this repository describing your changes.
  • Feel free to cross-reference with other maps and sources when making comparisons. Here are some useful ones.
  • If there is a chest missing on the map, head to the Contribution guide to learn about how to contribute new markers.
