Welcome to the Re:Mobilize wiki! 🙂

Introduction

Re:Mobilize is a mod by EmeraldTiger, with major development and coding support by Inky, for id software's classic 1996 FPS game Quake, built on top of dumptruck_ds's excellent progs_dump development kit (version 3.0). In addition to including all of the new features and changes present in progs_dump, Re:Mobilize brings them to a new level by improving them in various ways and offering brand new exclusive features in the very spirit of progs_dump.

But above all, Re:Mobilize's signature features are three new movement-based mechanics that unlock new possibilities for both players and mappers:

In addition to the three aforementioned signature mechanics, Re:Mobilize makes one adjustment to standard Quake gameplay: Players will continue to take fall damage from extended heights, as with the regular game; however, if a fall would otherwise result in the player's death, the player will be left with 1 health instead. As a result, players can never die as a result of falls. This relatively minor change to gameplay was purposefully implemented to allow for large jumps in maps involving trampolines or lighthooks, which may unavoidably result in the player taking damage. Without this change to fall mechanics, a player with 5 or less health could find themselves in a situation where it would be impossible to progress, as doing so would require taking fatal damage.

How to play/install

Re:Mobilize requires a full (non-demo), legally purchased copy of Quake® to run. You can buy Quake through one of the following platforms:

Additionally, Re:Mobilize requires a modern source port/engine that extends the original game's limits. Some of the maps shipped with Re:Mobilize may exceed the original 8192-unit size maximum in the original DOS release, WinQuake, and GLQuake. Furthermore, the nature of Re:Mobilize's gameplay means the player will be required to look directly or nearly directly upwards at some points (particularly when navigating using lighthooks). The original DOS release, WinQuake, and GLQuake do not support full pitch freedom, whereas most modern source ports do.

We recommend one of the following:

  • Ironwail
  • vkQuake
  • Quakespasm
  • FTE

Use other source ports at your own discretion.

Unzip the folder "rm1.0" into your main Quake folder (the one where your executable is located). Make a shortcut of your main Quake source port's executable ("ironwail.exe" for Ironwail, for example), right click on it and open its properties. In the "target" box, append the following to the end of the executable path:

-game rm1.0

You might also wish to rename the shortcut to "remobilize", "rm", or similar.

When you run the game through the shortcut you made it should automatically load the Re:Mobilize mod.

NOTE:

The lighthook is bound to mouse2 by default, however you can change this binding to something else if you wish. To do this, type in the following in the console:

bind X +hook

Where X is the desired key (e.g. A, B, C, mouse2, mouse3, etc.)

How to make maps

Provided with Re:Mobilize is a .fgd file called remobilize.fgd, which can be loaded by any popular level editing program such as TrenchBroom. These will load the entity definitions for all three of the new mechanics. Also provided is a .wad file called rm_mechanics.wad, which includes the standard textures used by the mechanics. Once these are loaded, you will have the necessary tools to start building maps with these new mechanics.
