First of all, I want to let you know that this template is awesome. You guys have finally put out a template that has all of the functionality my users request (layer control, search, bookmarks, printing), so thanks for that!

That being said, I've noticed a few issues when I watch my users using the app:

  • Not all buttons in the top-left have hover text in IE 9
  • Missing scroll bar on legend. Mouse wheel works, but very difficult because the wheel also navigates between boxes and zooms the map
  • When "Feature Search" is enabled there isn't any visual feedback as to what the user is search. For example they'll type in a town name, but the search will be on RR Crossing Number.
  • The printing feature is really nice, but there needs to be more visual indication that the map is generating the layout. Changing the text from Print to Printing is a good start, but maybe it needs to be greyed out more, or add more text such as "Generating printout - please wait"
  • When a user checked "Add Legend to Layout", it wasn't added to the printout PDF in the end.

I'll update this as more users give me feedback.

You can see the template in action on the maps on our homepage http://rail.vermont.gov.

Thanks,
~Stephen

Thanks Stephen,

Glad you like the template.

  1. I'll investigate this one. You mention that not all buttons have hover in IE9. Do some?
  2. We've fixed this one for the next release.
  3. We are working on improving the search capability in a future release.
  4. I'll look into ways to make it more obvious that something is happening during print.
  5. I can't reproduce this one. When I select the add legend option I see that its added to the print output.

Kelly,

Thanks for looking into this for us. I haven't heard of any other issues with the template since my post.

  1. In IE9, only the "Default Location" and "Find My Location" buttons have hover text
    My IE9 version is 9.0.8112.16421
  2. I'm guessing that it has something to do with legend overflow. We have tons of sign symbols which will probably never fit on a single page legend. Here is an output with "Include Legend" clicked but no legend on the output

Issues 1 and 2 will be fixed with the next release the other issues will be evaluated for a future release.

Hi Everyone, this is fantastic!!

One question: how would you add operational layers from a locally hosted, non-arcgis online rest service? Along the same lines add clustering and heatmaps.

I cannot see in the config, docs or code how or where this can be done.

Many Thanks,
Steve
