The Boeing 707-400
==================

The Boeing 707 is a four-engine commercial passenger jet airliner developed by Boeing in the early 1950s. Its name is most commonly pronounced as "Seven Oh Seven". Boeing delivered a total of 1,010 Boeing 707s, and also offered a smaller, faster model of the aircraft that was marketed as the Boeing 720.

Although it was not the first commercial jet in service, the 707 was among the first to be commercially successful. Dominating passenger air transport in the 1960s, and remaining common throughout the 1970s, the 707 is generally credited with ushering in the Jet Age. It established Boeing as one of the largest makers of passenger aircraft, and led to the later series of aircraft with "7x7" designations.
The 707-400 was similar to the 707-300 but featured Rolls-Royce Conway 50B turbofans. Launch customer for this variant was BOAC with the first delivery taking place on February 12, 1960. A total of 37 707-400's were built with other customers being Air India, Cunard Eagle, El Al, Lufthansa and Varig.

O Boeing 707-400
================

O Boeing 707 foi um avião comercial a jato, produzido pela Boeing. Até a década de 1950, a Boeing era uma fabricante sem muito expressão, entre as muitas existentes nos Estados Unidos. Era conhecida apenas por suas aeronaves militares, e na verdade, o 707 nasceu como um projeto de nave de reabastecimento, conhecida como KC-135A.
Embora não tenha sido a primeira aeronave a jato a operar vôos comerciais, o Boeing 707 foi o primeiro a ter grande sucesso de vendas, bem como a primeira aeronave série 7X7.
Na verdade, a aeronave colocou o jato nos vôos comerciais, e alavancou as vendas da Boeing, ajudando-a a chegar ao posto de maior fabricante de aeronaves do mundo.
O 707 é um quadrijato, possuindo dois motores sob cada asa. A primeira linha aérea a operá-lo foi a Pan Am, realizando a rota Nova Iorque - Paris, em 26 de outubro de 1958.
O alcance do Boeing 707 é de aproximadamente 5.700 mn (10659 km), velocidade de cruzeiro de 815 km/h, e a capacidade de passageiros, de até 202 pessoas. O Boeing 737, o Boeing 727 e o Boeing 747 utilizaram muito da tecnologia do seu antecessor, e podem ser consideradas como descendentes diretos dele.
A primeira operadora no Brasil foi a Varig, que o fez seu principal avião nas rotas internacionais, até a chegada dos DC-10. Também com um 707, a empresa brasileira protagonizou o maior mistério da aviação mundial: em 1979, o PP-VLU decolou de Tokyo com destino a Los Angeles. Desapareceu minutos depois, sem deixar rastros.
