0. Dependencies

You must use lightdm as your session manager and lightdm-webkit2-greeter as your greeter for lightdm.

1. Install the theme

Arch Linux (and other Arch based distros like Manjaro, Antergos, and Chakra)

You may install the lightdm-webkit2-material2 theme using the AUR. See the AUR wiki page for information on how to install from the AUR.

If you have pacaur installed, you may use the command below.

# pacaur -S lightdm-webkit2-theme-material2

Other Distros

Download the latest release from the releases page. Untar the release into your a material2 folder in your lightdm-webkit2-greeter themes directory, for example /usr/share/lightdm-webkit/themes/material2. Make sure you do not have an additional lightdm-webkit2-material2 folder in your material2 folder.

2. Change theme setting for lightdm-webkit2-greeter

Change your lightdm-webkit2-greeter configuration file (often found at /etc/lightdm/lightdm-webkit2-greeter.conf) to the following:

  webkit_theme        = material2
