[Feature Request] げ to い deinflection #1410
Comments
has kanji too eg 誇らし気 also there is stuff like 良さ気(よさげ) how do you use ruby tags here btw? like in this comment #1408 (comment) |
Is that truly considered an inflection though? The terminator character is a kanji, and JMdict has entries for all those anyways. ruby <ruby>ruby<rt>text</rt></ruby> |
I guess what I'm getting at is that if 誇らしい → 誇らしげ is considered an inflection then 誇らしい → 誇らし気 is too, because 誇らしげ = 誇らし気 thanks! |
I think it is important to acknowledge that not everyone uses Jmdict. I do not use Jmdict and I never will use Jmdict. |
Yea that's a good point Personally, I could see myself removing the definitions since I'm getting pretty good at reading monolingual ones now. But it's so useful as a pivot dictionary for merged mode that I don't think I could ever remove more than that Also I do think jmdict gets a bad rap from its older versions, which honestly are pretty lackluster. It still has a ways to go, but it has come a long way IMO. I see tons of projects with over decade old jmdict builds :( |
Sure and I wasn't trying to imply such. It was more in reference to there being dictionaries that contain these as standalone entries, so it's not entirely clear whether they are classed as separate readings. It's a unique case since there currently aren't any other deinflection rules which modify kanji.
(Re-opening for discussion) |
(I assume you meant 'shige'?) |
Yeah; sorry, typo due to not using IME.
I suppose my concern comes from the distinction between a suffix and an inflection. Yomichan (currently) doesn't do any sort of special handling for suffixes or other similar structures, which could include things such as dates (2021年02月04日), titles (氏), etc. And if things like this were to be handled more broadly, the system would probably be a bit different than the current deinflection system. There are some technical concerns with having too many inflections defined, such as slowing down scanning. |
I'll throw an idea out. Maybe instead of a deinflection specifically for the ~気 suffix, there could just be a generic one to deinflect い adjectives with their い chopped off? So for example if you search Off the top of my head I think there are other situations where that could be useful? (Similar to English, I have very little conscious knowledge about Japanese grammar) |
A common inflection of シク 形容詞's is changing the い to げ, such as "誇らしげに見せびらかす"
Looking up 誇らしげ does not deinflect to 誇らしい.
