Rank by grouped map-like values

Given repeated nested messages with key, value, it is possible to rank the value by the key (possibly in addition to other keys). But there is no way to retrieve the rank of a record given a particular key. Part of the ranked-set group needs to come from the record fields and within the record a particular map entry needs to be chosen using another key value passed separately.
