I am sure that the issue has to do with when the graphics driver is loaded, but it makes it nearly impossible to access snapshots from upgrades when I cannot access the boot menu.

Hey there,
Can you explain exactly what you are seeing as well what revision you are
running on your system. The i915 kernel module should not effect the boot
menu. Is there a configuration that does work which allows you to
view/edit the boot menu?

@larrydewey The i915 driver can't even be loaded until you have a file system and init has run. Thus it isn't possible for it to be interfering with the boot menu.
