16 Consider the recording of marriage licences/bonds #674
Comments
#809 proposes to contain a field that indicates when the marriage was by licence, It will not record the licence as this may well be in a separate document and not the parish register |
IMO a licence collection would be best addressed as a separate application |
Sandra also points out that the bonds serve as a check on transcription quality of marriages. |
A marriage contract or marriage licence is a separate document. It has more similarities to a will or probate than to a parish register document. Hence it should be addressed through an app designed to support that type of document just like we are proposing for a will. It should be a new Project. |
2 images of a (welsh) bonds now in the Freereg/images folder. The data seems to be less than is contained in the banns register (#1427). - ie. no dates of readings of bans, just names, marriage status, residences. What am I missing - the banns and bonds are not marriages, so they are a different record types. Not so much difference between a bond and a marriage as between a will and a death. Maybe bonds/licences, banns and confirmation need an 'advanced search'? |
Having looked at the bond, I believe all of the information on it can be accommodated by the new banns record type. |
Entry of licences and bonds, as opposed to marriages, offers some opportunities for linkages, and also has implication for searching. We need to think these two opportunities through, and translate into issues if need be.
