What is AcerolaFX?

AcerolaFX is a suite of shader effects for Final Fantasy XIV intended for both gameplay and gpose. AcerolaFX shaders are completely customizable and give you the freedom to create your own personal professional quality ReShade preset. Control the ambient occlusion, saturation and contrast of each color channel, add photoshop blend modes and bloom or create your own custom filmic tone mapping curve with auto exposure to keep the game playable. Take advantage of HDR support to create incredibly high contrast, realistic renders. AcerolaFX also comes with a number of effects for stylizing the game such as transforming your photos into cross hatched sketches or simplified oil paintings! Several presets are provided for use designed by myself which you are free to use, or you can get creative and make what looks best for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will ReShade get me banned from Final Fantasy XIV?

No, the community team of Final Fantasy XIV has explicitly stated that ReShade is not against ToS and is not bannable.

Are these shaders for gameplay or gpose?

Both! Presets specially tuned and completely viable for general gameplay are provided. Every effect is designed to be completely customizable for absolute control over your gpose screenshots. Additionally, many effects specifically for gpose are included.

What presets are included?

AcerolaFX comes with 3 main presets titled GameplayLow, GameplayMedium, and GameplayHigh. These are intended for gameplay and the name corresponds to the quality level of the preset, with the only real difference being the SSAO settings as that effect has the most impact on performance. Additionally, AcerolaFX comes with a generic GPose preset intended as a scratchboard for messing with the shaders and several other presets I have made for fun to demonstrate what's possible.

Can I raid with these presets?

Yes! The gameplay preset has been tuned in such a way that high contrast, filmic visuals are obtained without blowing out the bloom that exists in the game. For an example comparison from The Epic Of Alexander you can look here. Notice how the markers aren't disgustingly blown out, how cool!

What is HDR?

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and means that color values can exceed their traditional limit, allowing for a greater range of colors during color correction calculations. Effects that utilize HDR are marked with an (HDR) tag in their tooltip.

Are these shaders compatible with other shaders?

Unfortunately not. Due to the injected HDR pipeline, any shaders you wish to use with AcerolaFX are required to come before or after the AcerolaFXStart and AcerolaFXEnd shaders. I have gone to great lengths to try and include anything you could ever want with AcerolaFX shaders to reduce the dependence on other desired effects. If you have an effect request, let me know on social media!

Are these shaders hard to run?

Multiple quality presets are provided for differing performance benchmarks. The highest quality gameplay preset takes 5ms to run on my 1660 at 1920x1080 giving me an average fps of about 75 overall. I have a relatively average computer, so most people should be able to run the shaders without issues.

What are the desired Final Fantasy XIV graphics settings for these shaders?

You should set gamma to 0 in display settings and manually adjust gamma in the Gamma shader effect, otherwise the shaders may be darker than intended. You should also disable Final Fantasy XIV's existing SSAO in the graphics settings, as a better SSAO effect is included with AcerolaFX_XeGTAO. Lastly, you should adjust character lighting to preference if your character is visibly too dark. Make adjustments to shadow resolution if more performance is desired.

How can I support you?

All I ask is that you use the tag #AcerolaFX on any posts using my shaders, mainly so I can see it! I also have a patreon but my shaders will always be freely available and nothing will ever be paywalled.

Will these increase my parses?

Yes*
