I recently installed on blender 2.83, but even if on
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.83\scripts\addons

the folder appears, the plugin is not shown under preferences->community, so it can't be enabled.

Same for me. Tried on 2.83.4 and 2.92 alpha. Installs without error, is put into the correct user appdata folder, but doesn't appear in prefs/addons list so it can be enabled.

Did you install 1.0.1 or 1.0.0? Because 1.0.1 doesn't have a proper "release" here yet. If you install the whole source folder you'll get some stuff around it like the tests. You need to have just the io_mesh_3mf folder in the addons folder.

1.0.0, I just went here and downloaded the zip file...

Do you now have a folder called C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.83\scripts\addons\io_mesh_3mf then?

Did you look under the "testing" list of addons?

Yes, in my case the addon DOES indeed appear under the testing tab, thank you.

I probably wrote the README with the idea that the plug-in would be shipped with Blender by default at some point but due to difficulties with their submission process I didn't get around yet to properly submitting it. I should update the readme in the meanwhile.
