Description

Did you know Self-Sovereign Identity is not only about identities? In this episode, we're going to uncover another side of SSI universe, exploring some other use cases that go beyond the (sovereign) management of identifiers.

Takeaways

  • Verifiable Credential ("VC") is still a nascent technology. And even if the tech worked perfectly today, there are still challenges around trust: how will verifiers confidently accept a VC from an issuer via a chain of custody as that credential was passed all the way from the issuer to the verifier, through some kind of wallet?

  • Federations, like the Brazil Open Banking federation, are one way to help scale trust. For example, participants of a federation either as an Issuer or a Verifier could sign a legal agreement to disclose their business and security practices, agree to protect data, notify of breaches, and give certain controls to end users.

  • De-platforming and data sovereignty concerns rule out big tech as a savior.

  • The subject of a VC need not be a person. Alexandre and Edgar are working on a project that uses VC technology to provenance a supply chain for physcial goods.
