Double tap to open the camera on the lock screen and then press the power button to turn off the display. Wake the screen and you can see the app stays running in the background. This also prevents double tap to open from working again until it is closed by using the back gesture.

The app should be closed if the display is turned off such as when pressing the power button or when the 5 minute wakelock timeout is reached.
