Patterns Strategy workshops ‐ Jan 2024

What

We are going to run a series of virtual Design Thinking workshops to restart and reshape the Green Software Patterns project.

We want to:

  • Redesign the Green Software Patterns experience to empower software teams throughout the world to build greener applications
  • Consider how we position the GSF as the authority on green software pattern
  • Develop a new strategy to help the catalogue continue growing and evolving beyond the current state

We will:

  • Focus on the catalogue holistically
  • Consider Information Architecture
  • Constantly consider the needs of our users
  • Get to a starting point, not an end-point

We won't:

  • Focus on the existing patterns - We are going to assume the current patterns and pattern structure is fit for purpose
  • Write new patterns
  • Worry implementation details - There is plenty of time for that later

Success will mean:

  • Us all aligned on the purpose of the Green Software Patterns and how they can have a positive impact
  • Having a clear path forward for the Patterns project
  • Team excited by the new direction
  • Clear next steps

When

The workshops will run on:

  • Wednesday 24 January 2024
  • Wednesday 31 January 2024
  • Wednesday 7 February 2024
  • Wednesday 14 February 2024

Each workshop will start at 16:00 GMT and run for 2 hours.

The workshops are spread over multiple weeks to allow those not able to attend to get involved between sessions.

We will present the outcomes of the workshops in the project call on Tuesday 12 March 2024.

How

  • We will run virtual workshops over Zoom
  • We will collaborate using Miro. The board will be publicly accessible for those not able to attend
  • A participant pack will be provided for those attending to ensure we are able to get the most from our time together

Outline

  • Workshop 1: Aligning around a design challenge by spending some time thinking about and discussing the needs of a person who wants to use the Patterns.
  • Workshop 2: Having decided what our user looks like we'll focus on what that they are trying to do with the Patterns - what problem are they trying to solve and why? What do they need help with?
  • Workshop 3:
